Itinerary:

Day one: Pickup at Cape Town International airport at 9.30am or Cape Town city at 10.30am.
Drive to Yserfontein (1 hr) to settle into our tented cabins at Khwa ttu San bushman cultural centre, stopping at Bloubergstrand for supplies and magnificent views towards table mountain on the way.

Day two: Breakfast provided. Morning cultural experience with traditional san / bushman knowledge holders on land – including an introduction to animal tracking and traditional medicinal plants.
Back to Cape Town for a sunset walk up the ancient rocky hills surrounding table mountain, learning about their alignment to the equinoxes, experiencing the chakras of the mountain as we ascend. Meditation/ceremony with the setting rays of the sun.
Accommodation in Cape Town.

Day three: Breakfast provided. Weaving workshop with the traditional weavers from Dunoon informal settlement. Possible stop at Milnerton flea market or Design Afrika’s basketry warehouse in Woodstock, Cape Town.
Overnight bus to Upington, Northern Cape.

Day four: Drive to Augrabies Falls National park, with a walk to the falls to see the amazing proliferation of rainbow lizards and views of the deep gorge and thundering water etching its way into the earth. See the huge rose quartz rock and smaller pieces which riddle the landscape in this area. A special place indeed! Bush drive or optional (pre- booked only) special rapid rafting trip on the Orange river (grade 2 and 3 rapids), then on to Riemvasmaak hot springs for a traditional bushman/ Khoi meal, dancing and a soak in hot springs under the stars. Accommodation at Riemvasmaak.

Day five: Drive to our accommodation near Andriesvale (4 hours), see the huge, amazing sociable weaver nests that line the road, in trees and on telephone poles. (We call them drop bears because that’s what they look like!) Relax at the pool.

Day six to eight: Breakfasts provided. Kalahari desert festival (KDF), which includes Weavery’s facilitated culture exchange and community development weaving workshops (and possibly other bush crafts like traditional doll making TBA). http://www.kdfest.com/
Lunch/dinner options from various local traditional food stalls at very low prices.

Day nine: Breakfast provided. Activities with local bushman craftsmen like bow-and arrow shooting, porcupine quill necklace making, ostrich egg shell drilling and sanding, learning Nama language (with clicks, like in ‘The Gods must be Crazy’), home visits. Optional extra (subject to availability) – opportunity to ‘sit with’ a traditional bushman spiritual healer or try dune surfing in the red Kalahari sand.

Day ten: Drive to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Count the vulture nests atop the trees that line the river alongside, on the way. Relax at your bungalow or have a swim at Tweerivieren rest camp, in the park. Evening or morning safari drive in the park, to spot the amazing wildlife. If we are lucky, we could even see a lion or a cheetah!

Day eleven: Slowly make our way back to Upington. Overnight bus back to Cape Town.

Day twelve: Arrival in Cape Town Central (bus and train station) at 9am. Breakfast together before we part ways.

Investment: $2950 pp, extra $100 for the double bed instead of a single. (Accommodation includes 2, 3 and 4- person share rooms). Ex Cape Town

Suitable for women and men.

Additional itinerary optional (Cape Town is an amazing place) could include a trip up table mountain in the cable car, a trip to Langa township, Cape Point nature reserve, penguins at Boulders beach, Hout Bay markets, wine tours, underground tunnel tour, Jazz club visit and a visit to the V and A waterfront including the magnificent Zeitz Moccaa contemporary African art museum.

For those that are staying even longer, Well there’s an amazing festival happening in the Northern Transvaal at Badplaas, a conscious music, culture and art festival (Ubuntufest), organised by Michael Tellinger’s Ubuntu planet. That’s April 12-15. http://ubuntufest.org/ – I will be running a weaving area there with traditional African weavers.

Then from April 23rd till 29th, it’s time for Afrika Burn. https://www.afrikaburn.com/

Yeeeew! Exciting adventures ahead!
