SUMMARY:Weavery Indigenous culture journeys
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nBook here \nA special weaving adventure to Indigenous Australian country and culture\, A meaningful travel experience filled with the richness and joy of intercultural connection. An unforgettable adventure. \nSmall groups of up to 10 participants. \nIncludes accommodation (shared rooms in bungalows at Jabiru (with a pool) \,  permits and vehicle hire to get us to those almost-out-of reach places\, fibre\, tuition and a trip to the most amazing World Heritage listed rock art galleries in Arnhem Land. Journey 2 is fully catered. All EX Darwin \nThis will be an amazing and unique experience of connection to self\, to Indigenous culture and weaving. We will travel from Darwin to our accommodation\, and settle in. \nA drive out to Gunbalanya (Oenpelli)\, past Border Store and over Cahill’s crossing into Arnhem Land\, keeping our eyes out for crocodiles that bask in the shallows of the East Alligator river. \nDriving to Gunbalanya from the crossing takes us through fifteen minutes of the most amazing rocky outcrops and countryside you can imagine… and at the community we make acquaintance with the local artists and weavers (with hugs of course!). \nThe next four/five days will be spent in the company of the Kunwinjku weavers\, learning to weave with local pandanus\, sand palm and other plants. We will learn a number of dye methods by going out on harvesting trips for fibre and dye plants and have a chance to practice it first-hand! Laughing and learning together with Christine Nabobbob\, senior weaver\, and other local women weavers who are all experienced and generous teachers. We will spend time exploring relationships as well as the country and its dreamtime stories. \nThere is time for us all to go on a trip to Injalak hill with a local guide to see the most awesome cave paintings and ancient spots where ancestors sat and shared culture with their people. We will hear stories of cultural significance and be able to breathe the spirit of the land through our lungs\, hearts and veins. Visitors travel from around the world to visit the local art centre and Injalak Hill to see the ancient rock art galleries. \nYour eyes will be opened with respect for the amazing culture we will have the privilege to experience. \nLeave all preconceived ideas at home.
