Ongoing – Weave Heal Connected – Walking with Landcare – Pomona
April 29, 2015 @ 10:00 am - October 31, 2015 @ 1:30 pm$80
The purpose of the project is to allow community members to engage in arts and cultural learning practices that will empower and inspire, to spread skills and knowledge in ways that are inclusive, ongoing and sustainable.
Learning will include:
– Introduction to weaving plants in terms of fibre identification, harvesting and preparation
– Weaving techniques will include coil weave, random weave, twist weave, warp- and-weft and flat weave (and more!)
– Informal yarning
We will be looking at local SEQ weaving fibre for identification and planting in your gardens. Then we will use sustainably harvested alternative fibres such as banana stem, palm inflorescence and weed vines to weave baskets and sculptural objects.
These objects will be collected for public display for a short time after the course before being returned to their owners – you!
The project will serve as stage one (initial community skill-building and connection) in a larger vision culminating in the creation of a large community garden sculpture for which further funding will be sought.
Ongoing every Wednesday – $30 per single workshop, paid upon registration (booking).
