A journey like no other! Five days of weaving with natural fibres, in the company of like-minded women. Five days – adventure, fibre spotting, dingo whispering, creek dipping and trekking to remote and pristine sites. Me, René Bahloo of Weavery at the helm, in my beloved Beasty Babe the troopie-mobile. Laughter, irreverence and joy… and silence, as we dive deep into the stillness of being, together. Meditative and contemplative practices of inner noticing, teamed with nature as teacher at her finest, to encourage and support healing, while being deeply nurtured in circle with others. And time for yourself, to settle back into your core truth.

Yes, sounds great Rene, but what weaving will we learn?

We will use special pandanus fibre from Arnhem Land to weave a larger piece (basket or sculpture) not possible during a one-day workshop.

We will learn two techniques which we can incorporate into the one piece.

We will investigate the local flora as we traverse the island together, and I will identify the fibres available for use as weaving materials. Of course we will leave them in their local space while we use what I have brought onto the island myself (honouring the island’s heritage).

I will bring along some natural dye plant matter for my dye pots and we will have great fun dyeing undyed fibre, which we can also use in our baskets if we so choose.

Thanks. And how else will we spend our time on K’gari?

Well, this is really cool. We will go adventuring in Beasty Babe, to the lakes and ocean creeks that make Frazer Island K’Gari so exceptional. Yes, swimming if the weather is appropriate (bring your floaties, folks!) Shipwreck-spotting, whales and dolphins too, who knows what we might notice. But our adventuring does not stop with the external experience, we go deep within, too. We will spend time in counsel together, in sharing, circle time. We spend time in nature, with invitations to eco-therapy exercises and practices that can open up a way for our deep communication with our soul-selves, within the natural world, in peaceful yet growthful solitude. But remember, as much as there are juicy and deep treats in store for you (more than I can write here) you have ultimate say about how you choose to spend your time. Just sitting on the beach, weaving. Always weaving. Wind tickling your hair, sun caressing your face. Sound good?

Sweet. So, what kind of accommodation have you got planned for us?

We have secured space in a really cool eco-style accommodation, with a big shared bunker room for all participants. There is a camp kitchen for any cooking needs as well as being within walking distance to a restaurant and resort with all the frills. We will provide for breakfasts and two dinner meals.

If anyone wants their extra snazzy-style own room, at their own cost, I am happy to enquire as to what’s available. Keep in mind, the more notice, the better your chances of getting it, though!

How big will the group be?

Spots will be kept to a minimum. This means that I have place for six humans on this adventure as we carve our way into the flow of a slower way of being, gently allowing the experience of present moment awareness, to unfold in grace, together.

If this feels good to you, please make contact.

What else to bring? You!!! An open heart, swimmers (remember floaties for Eli creek) and a pair of binoculars maybe. A camera! Not much internet reception on the island though, so your phone’s social media posts will be on hold.

A willingness to learn and have fun. A curiosity about life, and what else is possible in this amazing experience of aliveness.

October 21-25 2022, Frazer Island (K’Gari). Includes the ferry trip both ways: we leave from Rainbow Beach where you can leave your vehicle. Pickups on the Sunshine Coast can be arranged.

$990 per person, secured through a non-refundable (transferable) deposit of $300, or payment in full. Final payment due one calendar month before the trip starts.
