SUMMARY:Weaving is Healing Sunshine Coast November 2022
DESCRIPTION:We will create a beautiful medicine piece by weaving with pandanus spiralus (a unique premium weaving fibre from Arnhem Land) in a fun spiral technique. \nThe workshop will be facilitated through means of a ceremonial space where you will be nurtured and held safely in a circle of like-minded beings\, sharing and breathing and creating together. Trauma informed\, please let me know by private communication if you would like your circumstances to be known\, and gently held. \nBeginners are celebrated. \nThis is an opportunity to experience the ancient art of basket weaving as a deeply mindful and contemplative practice. It is a space of sharing\, creating\, being and breathing\, conducted through ceremony and celebration of life. Using natural materials from the land\, you will learn to weave individual strands of fibre together to form a whole creation\, while recognising and acknowledging the mirrors and metaphors that bind us together with nature and each other. Like a weave within a weave\, this has the power of revealing a way of being that is nurturing\, growthful\, enlightening and honouring of the energy of creation. Together we will weave baskets that hold in their fibres all of the stories we share\, flowing in symphony with the songs of nature as they unfold around and within us. \nExtra pandanus fibre will be available to buy on the day\, if needed for future weaving projects or expansion of your current one. \nPlease bring a chair\, cushion or mat to sit on\, and lunch to share. \n$110 pp \nTickets can be booked online or by emailing me to organise a direct deposit / cash. \nweaverywork@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Weaving is Healing Retreat to K'Gari Frazer Island 21-25 October 2022
DESCRIPTION:A journey like no other! Five days of weaving with natural fibres\, in the company of like-minded women. Five days – adventure\, fibre spotting\, dingo whispering\, creek dipping and trekking to remote and pristine sites. Me\, René Bahloo of Weavery at the helm\, in my beloved Beasty Babe the troopie-mobile. Laughter\, irreverence and joy… and silence\, as we dive deep into the stillness of being\, together. Meditative and contemplative practices of inner noticing\, teamed with nature as teacher at her finest\, to encourage and support healing\, while being deeply nurtured in circle with others. And time for yourself\, to settle back into your core truth. \nYes\, sounds great Rene\, but what weaving will we learn? \nWe will use special pandanus fibre from Arnhem Land to weave a larger piece (basket or sculpture) not possible during a one-day workshop. \nWe will learn two techniques which we can incorporate into the one piece. \nWe will investigate the local flora as we traverse the island together\, and I will identify the fibres available for use as weaving materials. Of course we will leave them in their local space while we use what I have brought onto the island myself (honouring the island’s heritage). \nI will bring along some natural dye plant matter for my dye pots and we will have great fun dyeing undyed fibre\, which we can also use in our baskets if we so choose. \nThanks. And how else will we spend our time on K’gari? \nWell\, this is really cool. We will go adventuring in Beasty Babe\, to the lakes and ocean creeks that make Frazer Island K’Gari so exceptional. Yes\, swimming if the weather is appropriate (bring your floaties\, folks!) Shipwreck-spotting\, whales and dolphins too\, who knows what we might notice. But our adventuring does not stop with the external experience\, we go deep within\, too. We will spend time in counsel together\, in sharing\, circle time. We spend time in nature\, with invitations to eco-therapy exercises and practices that can open up a way for our deep communication with our soul-selves\, within the natural world\, in peaceful yet growthful solitude. But remember\, as much as there are juicy and deep treats in store for you (more than I can write here) you have ultimate say about how you choose to spend your time. Just sitting on the beach\, weaving. Always weaving. Wind tickling your hair\, sun caressing your face. Sound good? \nSweet. So\, what kind of accommodation have you got planned for us? \nWe have secured space in a really cool eco-style accommodation\, with a big shared bunker room for all participants. There is a camp kitchen for any cooking needs as well as being within walking distance to a restaurant and resort with all the frills. We will provide for breakfasts and two dinner meals.  \nIf anyone wants their extra snazzy-style own room\, at their own cost\, I am happy to enquire as to what’s available. Keep in mind\, the more notice\, the better your chances of getting it\, though! \nHow big will the group be? \nSpots will be kept to a minimum. This means that I have place for six humans on this adventure as we carve our way into the flow of a slower way of being\, gently allowing the experience of present moment awareness\, to unfold in grace\, together. \nIf this feels good to you\, please make contact.  \nWhat else to bring? You!!! An open heart\, swimmers (remember floaties for Eli creek) and a pair of binoculars maybe. A camera! Not much internet reception on the island though\, so your phone’s social media posts will be on hold. \nA willingness to learn and have fun. A curiosity about life\, and what else is possible in this amazing experience of aliveness. \nOctober 21-25 2022\, Frazer Island (K’Gari). Includes the ferry trip both ways: we leave from Rainbow Beach where you can leave your vehicle. Pickups on the Sunshine Coast can be arranged. \n$990 per person\, secured through a non-refundable (transferable) deposit of $300\, or payment in full. Final payment due one calendar month before the trip starts. \nIf you have any questions\, call me at 0438162552. Or email – weaverywork@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Weaving at the Bhakti Barn Feb 2020
DESCRIPTION:WHERE: Join Rene Bahloo at a The Bhakti Barn in the heart of Cooroy for a divine weaving workshop SUNDAY 2ND FEB 2020. \n WHAT: Using the local weed vine of cats claw\, we will create a fairly large fruit basket/ harvesting tray which is strong\, durable and beautiful. The day will include a ceremony-style weaving circle\, a shared lunch\, much flow of wisdom and a guided relaxation session with live music from Chris Lane to finish the day – perfect for you to float home in bliss! You will even have a basket to take home with you. \n WHO: René Bahloo is an installation artist\, facilitator and project coordinator\, with a special interest in the practice and philosophy of basket weaving\, using natural plant fibres. She shares her knowledge through weaving circles and facilitates grassroots journeys to remote Indigenous Australian and African communities\, for deep connection to land\, culture\, healing and traditional weaving. \n THE FIBRE: Cat’s claw creeper (Macfadyena unguis-cati) is a native of South and Central America and is an aggressive climber that was used as an ornamental in older-style Queensland gardens. This vine has the ability to completely smother native vegetation\, growing up over trees. Many bushland areas in our local vicinity already have serious infestations of this weed. Luckily for us\, it’s an amazing vine for weaving baskets\, so we can clear the bush of it without worrying about its sustainability! \n MORE DETAILS: This is an opportunity to experience the ancient art of basket weaving as a deeply mindful and heart connecting practice.
